What is PEX Repiping?

In addition to our expert installation of copper repiping, Repipe Specialists also provides expert PEX repipe services.

What is PEX?
PEX, sometimes known as crosslinked polyethylene is an advanced piping system with several advantages over standard metal piping made from iron, lead or rigid plastic pipe systems with CPVC, PVC or ABS. PEX is a material that can be installed much faster than metal-based pipe and has reduced water noise in the pipes. PEX is flexible, resists chlorine and scale and it will not corrode or develop pinhole leaks.

This is a favorable customer advantage in labor costs needed for each job, as rigid plastic used in old installations or metal piping is required to be cut down to size to get practical shipping and storage. The low profile of PEX has several advantages, including lower shipping and handling costs due to decreased weight and size and improved options for storage.

Most often PEX repiping installations don’t need the larger quantity of fittings as rigig piping commonly require. The advanced flexibility of PEX tubing allows it to turn 90 degree corners without a need for elbow fittings. PEX pipe is unrolled from spools and installation can be done in much longer length without need for additional coupler fittings.

Attaching fittings to PEX tubing does not require soldering or using a torch, eliminating common safety and health hazards involving acid fluxes and lead-based solder used to seal the fittings and connections.

Tubing used in PEX repiping is much more resistant to freeze-breakage than copper or rigid plastic pipe.

PEX pipe tubing doesn’t transfer heat as easily as metal based, using less heat energy and lowering your monthly utility bill.

Water flows much quieter through PEX tube. The common and often nerve-wracking watter hammer sounds of metal based pipes is almost completely eliminated.

PEX repiping installations are more cost effective. Because PEX piping is not as costly as metal pipe, not as much time is required running pipe and installing the pipe fittings than common rigid plastic or metal piping. By using PEX pipe, fewer fittings as required, which means less of a chance that you’ll require return service calls.
